Aligners
Aka: Spark, Invisalign etc. they are a series of clear trays that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. Invisalign patients wear their aligners all the time and remove them only to eat, brush, and floss. This system is available to adult patients and teenagers with certain orthodontic problems. With extensive advancement in aligner technology many are candidates for aligners with an Orthodontist that understands how to leverage aligner physics. Ask us if you are a candidate for Invisalign.
Traditional/ Silver Metal Braces
Traditional stainless-steel braces are still worn by many orthodontic patients. Many of our patients who enjoy the different colored elastic ties wear metal braces. The force control of brackets and wires still offers the ability in treating to the maximum level of complexity in an orthodontic case.
Phase 1/ Early Age Treatment
Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics both involves tooth positioning and alignment of the smile, but it also involves working with and adjusting for growth of the face. Sometimes there are problems that arise that need correction before the patient is ready for full comprehensive treatment. This is often quick but can make big lasting differences in appearance and function.
Limited Treatment
Lost a retainer, and waited a minute…? Have a small space or out of place tooth, but the bite is good? Preparing for veneers, crowns, implants or any other dental work? Sometimes a small adjustment is enough to make a big difference. Or simply, have a simple case? Aligners or Braces can be used often to achieve these goals quickly with no need for months on months or years of treatment. This goes hand in hand with being more affordable than one might think as well.
Airway and Surgical Orthodontics
For some patients there may be a facial imbalance that can only be corrected surgically, in these cases jaw surgery in conjunction with orthodontics (Invisalign or braces) may be needed for an ideal result. Surgical orthodontics has also been shown to aid in opening the airway for patients with sleep apnea. Additionally, dental sleep devices which push the lower jaw forward can often disrupt a patient’s stable bite and need typically nonsurgical correction to undo those effects.
Esthetic Smile Design:
When straightening the teeth alone is not enough to get that perfect smile, a team approach may be needed. Often involving your dentist and possibly other dental specialists, Dr. Patenaude will plan for the transformation of your smile. This may include altering the gum line, or the tooth shapes and color.
